All we like sheep have gone astray;
God's glory we despised.
Our sin offends the Holy One,
Demands a sacrifice.
O God, you sent your only Son,
And in our place he died.
He took our sin upon himself;
Your wrath he satisfied.
Lord Jesus, you were pierced for us,
Our sin and shame to bear.
God laid you in the dust of death
To save us from despair.
Forsaken by your Father in
That moment when you cried,
You thought of us for whom you bled,
And you were satisfied.
The Father did not hide his face
Forever from you, Lord.
Your work complete, your fellowship
With God is now restored.
You ever live enthroned on high;
You're seated at his side.
God's will has prospered in your hand,
And you are satisfied.
O Jesus be exalted and
Your righteousness made known.
That righteousness is ours by grace
Through faith in you alone.
And when in glory you appear,
Your arms will open wide;
We'll live forever in your love,
And we'll be satisfied.
based on Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53
‘All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
It was the will of the LORD to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for sin,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see
and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.’
(Isaiah 53, excerpts, ESV)
